The State Budget — Was the Wait Worth It?

On Tuesday, August 21st, the Senate passed the state budget, the third latest budget in the state’s history. The Local Government Commission (LGC) is working together with the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District to produce a workshop on " Designing and Retrofitting Neighborhoods to Improve Safety." The event will be held on August 21, 2007 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in downtown Sacramento.

The goal of this daylong workshop is to reach out to law enforcement and fire departments to discuss ways in which Smart Growth strategies that call for mixed-use, compact, pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly neighborhoods with slow, safe streets can help them achieve their missions. The program will address ways to design or retrofit Sacramento County neighborhoods to improve safety without impacting response times.
